Abstract

The reservation policy in India has sparked debate since its inception. It was designed to provide historically disadvantaged groups with equal opportunities in education and employment. This policy, introduced through the Indian Constitution, guarantees equality of opportunity and prohibits discrimination based on religion, race, caste, gender, or place of birth.[1] The Constitution also includes affirmative action measures, such as reservations, to ensure marginalized groups have equal access to opportunities. This study examines the constitutional basis for India’s reservation policy and explores the various issues and debates surrounding it.
